Bethel United Methodist Church
"Land Quest 2002"
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to be a congregation of devoted Christians sharing God’s
love throughout the community
OUR BACKGROUND
Bethel United Methodist Church was established in 1966 and has been at
its current location since 1970. The Bethel Neighborhood Council was organized
in 1972. One of its first initiatives was to establish the Bethel Child
Care Center in 1973. The purpose of the Bethel Child Care Center is to
provide quality childcare for parents and guardians living within the
City of San Antonio. Later in 1973 the Bethel Neighborhood Council began
a Senior Citizens Nutrition Program. The goal of the program is to provide
area senior citizens one nutritiously balanced meal per day. It is with
our history in mind that we embark upon this new vision of community development.
Our mission statement says we are “… a congregation of devoted
Christians sharing God’s love throughout the community.” One
of our church goals for 2002 is outreach to the community. Community outreach
and development is at the heart of what we believe as a church.
OUR VISION
God gives the church a vision for the future. God gives the leadership
the gifts and graces to recognize what God wants done in the name of Jesus
Christ. God is a God of purpose. God wants every human being to be whole.
That means once you and I are on the path to wholeness that we also should
help someone else.
We have acquire 76.57 acres of land adjacent to Bethel. The acquisition
of this land will allow Bethel to expand our vision of community outreach
and development into the 21st century. We believe that God provides the
leadership, the resources, the intelligence, and the means to accomplish
this vision. God wants the community, the city and the world to know him
and be blessed by him.
A God given vision requires the faithful to be stirred by the spirit and
move out in faith. When we move out in faith, God almighty will provide
for each and every need. God will provide the money for the land and the
buildings if Bethel will be faithful in time, talent and resources. We
must simply do what we can in faith and God will do the rest. This is
a historical opportunity that God has placed in our hands and he will
not let us fail. The land acquired will be used to reach the
Bethel community through the
following means:
~ Youth Programs – Education & Athletics
~ Health & Human Services
~ Senior Citizens Unassisted Living Facility
~ Community Economic Development
Your gift will help make this
vision possible. Thanks in advance for your support.
